I meant to post sooner about the art show I participated in last Friday night. The week just got away from me, so here I am finally remembering.

The show was at a local gallery, called Paseo Gallery One, and was called Metamorphic Emergence. The artist sponsoring the show is a resident artist at that gallery, named Jo Swigart. She has some amazing paintings herself that you should definitely check out through the gallery or you can find her on Facebook. Her vision for the show was to allow older female artists some time in the spotlight, as so many times it's the younger artists who draw attention. There were over 50 Oklahoma based women artists who's work was featured in the show, and it will stay in the gallery for the month of June.

I'm including photos of myself and my paintings. Honestly, I didn't realize that they were also accepting ceramics and other media, or I may have gone with a ceramic piece or two as that's what my focus has been for the past decade and more. However, I am pleased with my paintings as it had been a long time since I'd worked with acrylics and I feel they turned out fairly well. I'm also including a couple of photos from Paseo Gallery One's FB page explaining the show, and featuring some of the other works.

The fish started as a drawing challenge. My oldest daughter (find her on FB at Amber/Art) and I will frequently sit outside and give each other drawing prompts. She challenged me to draw a fish dancing. Being me, I made it a fish couple, dressed in the finery. When I was looking for ideas to paint, that one seemed like something fun to make the transition from drawing to painting, and "Shall We Dance?" was done. The whimsey paired with some shimmery accents add to the fun.

The rooster was a given for me, as I love the MCM style of roosters and have done several ceramic pieces featuring them, and frequently including the hens and chicks. This one had a certain strut in his step and one of my other children commented that she really liked his personality. So, of course, that is the title for him. "Personality". His bright plumage and metallic accents liven up the piece.

Overall, the art show was a fun one and the artists were all fun to meet. I'm proud to have been a part of Jo's first sponsored show and can't wait to do more.
